1. Naomi Osaka’s maximalist US Open ‘super suit’
When two-time champion Osaka made her highly anticipated return to the US Open for the first time since 2022, there was no flying under the radar. Instead, the Japanese player leaned into her ‘maximalist’ side when she walked on court in one of the most unique tennis outfits in years.
Her multilayered look featured a warm-up jacket, skirt overlay and tennis dress covered in bows, ruffles and intricate details – a reference to Japanese ‘Lolita goth’ style that inspired Osaka.

“I definitely love to be involved in everything I do, whether it’s fashion or anything else,” Osaka told press in New York. “But I feel like being able to be a part of my tennis outfits gives me, I would say, a different strength… When I put on the outfit it’s almost like a super suit, so I try to channel that.”
Created by Japanese designer Yoon Ahn, the creative director of Ambush and global curator for Nike Women, the custom fit also included ‘Lolita-style’ makeover to her Beats headphones and bows on her shoes for a true head-to-toe look.
