Last week, the top 10 suffered big losses and saw the DII baseball Power 10 rankings flip on its head. This week, the top 10 teams brought the wins, but the bottom half of the top 25 suffered some surprising defeats. All this is to say that there isn’t much that separates teams ranked Nos. 1-30 — this is the deepest pool of teams DII baseball has seen in some time.
That explains why this week is a first for the DII baseball Power 10 rankings: A tie for the top spot. Angelo State is scorching hot; Tampa has arguably the best overall resume against a top-10 schedule in DII baseball. There’s a reason these were the last two teams standing last year, and they look like they are strong and deep enough to be headed for a rematch.

The below Power 10 rankings are different than other rankings. It is not a simple equation based solely on metrics, nor is it voted upon by a body of people in the game. It is a combination of both, weighing what is happening on the field with what is happening on paper. To rank DII baseball teams, you have to look beyond wins and losses — DII college baseball season is the longest of any sport. It ends after softball and spans five months, with most teams playing four to five games a week. Expecting a team to sweep every weekend is simply irrational.
So, how does one differentiate a field that is so tightly contested? That is what I try to explain below.
The DII baseball Power 10 rankings (Week ending April 6)
No. 1 Angelo State, Tampa | Previous: 1, 2 respectively. The Rams have won nine of their last 10 and have a 2-1 series lead on nationally ranked St. Edward’s (TX) heading into Monday’s finale. This offense is very much for real, no matter whom they are playing, leading DII in batting average and second in runs per game with the most runs scored thus far in the season. The Rams are in postseason form and should be considered the favorites once again to emerge from the South Central Region.
The Spartans fell out of the No. 1 spot for the first time all season last week, but jump right back up with a midweek win over Valdosta State and a dominant sweep of Nova Southeastern over the weekend. They have the top KPI in DII baseball, a top-five RPI, are dominating teams with a winning record and have done it against that tough schedule. Can we talk about Jordan Williams? He broke the Tampa single-season record this weekend with his 53rd stolen base of the season… and he has 15 games left to go. He needs 43 to tie Benedict’s Bradon O’Connor’s 97, the DII record set in 2022. While accomplishing that in the regular season may be tricky, Tampa is guaranteed to still be playing well into May.
No. 3 Central Missouri | Previous: No. 3. The Mules secured a second big series win over a MIAA foe, leading its series against Emporia State 2-0 heading into Monday’s finale. There is no reason for Central Missouri to fall this week, but know this: Teams Nos. 3-7 are separated by a thread. All five of these teams can be tied, so don’t look too much into the actual number, but how well the Mules are playing and how stacked the top 10 currently is. Though Minnesota State — on paper — may be the No. 1 seed in the Central right now, I like what the Mules have done against winning teams and a significantly better schedule, giving them the edge at the moment.
No. 4 North Greenville| Previous: No. 9. Yes indeed, the Trailblazers have surged way back up the rankings, the largest climber of the week. They already have 32 wins and are coming off a massive sweep of Mount Olive, giving them the best RPI and KPI in the Southeast Region. They are a run-scoring machine with a balance of pop up and down their lineup. The starting pitching is figuring it out, but the bullpen is very deep with great arms making North Greenville look like a complete force.
No. 5 Lenoir-Rhyne| Previous: 5 (tied). The Bears had a huge 5-0 week that included three games with 11 or more runs scored and two shutouts. The top of this batting order is borderline absurd with three hitters — THREE — that already have 16 home runs and all four with at least 40 runs scored. Andrew Harlow and William Girardi give them a pair of quality starting pitchers while the bullpen is also strong. This team can flat out win.
No. 6 Florida Southern | Previous: 4. The Mocs had a very strong 3-1 week, so don’t look at the “fall” as a negative thing, but more of a market correction in a tightly contested top 10. This team is as good as any in DII baseball, and proved it with its series win against Tampa. Per Inkblot Sports, the Mocs are 16-6 against teams with a winning record, and in the tough South Region, that is very impressive. Sophomore righty Sachem Ramos has been a welcomed addition and has been very impressive in the innings he gives this Mocs team, going at least seven in each of his last five starts.
No. 7 Millersville| Previous: 5 (tied). The Marauders actually lost a game, but that’s not why they fell. Again, it is just a result of how tight these five teams are. Millersville may be ranked too low, as it won yet another weekend series in the PSAC and has only one series loss in the deep Atlantic Region. Bren Taylor is catching fire once again, amid an eight-game hitting streak that sees his batting average rise above .400 — which isn’t surprising for the career .409 hitter. To win the PSAC and Atlantic, you need a strong pitching staff, and the Marauders certainly have that.
No. 8 Minnesota State| Previous: No. 8. The Mavericks are now 24-2, have won seven in a row and have scored 10 or more runs in four of their last five games… and they are the No. 8 team in DII baseball. That is how insanely deep the top 10 is right now. Ike Mezzenga is one to keep an eye on — after going 5 for 7 on Sunday, he extended his hitting streak to nine games. He also blasted two home runs in that game, and now has at least one homer in four straight games.
No. 9 UT Tyler| Previous: No. 7. The Patriots lost a game this weekend by the score of 1-0. They also won three games in which they scored a total of 54 runs. So, yes, this team is quite potent. Justin Williams has six multi-hit games in his last eight and Drew Schmidt continues to put the barrel on the ball about as good as anyone in DII. He’s had a 20-game and 14-game hitting streak thus far in 2025 and just started a new one on Sunday.
No. 10 Catawba | Previous: No. 10 (tied). The Indians had a 3-1 week and improved to 26-10. It was close between West Chester, Delta State and Catawba for this final spot, but the differentiator was that 20 of those 26 wins have come against teams with a winning record. That’s rather impressive and gives Catawba the edge. The Indians have a tough run ahead with Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate, UNC Pembroke and Carson-Newman all in a row, so we’ll see if they can hold the spot.
First five (ish) out (in alphabetical order)
The next five are just too close, so there are a few extra teams this week.
- Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks have put their early season woes behind them and have won 13 in a row and 19 out of their last 20.
- Delta State. It was a rough weekend for the Statesmen, but statistically speaking, this is still one of the best teams in DII. Drake Fontenot had yet another strong outing, going eight innings of one run ball and striking out nine in Delta State’s lone win.
- East Stroudsburg. The Warriors have won eight in a row. With arms like Ethan Woods and Ryan Dewees pitching the way they are, it will be tough to take a three-game series from them.
- North Georgia. The Nighthawks took yet another weekend series, this one from a very good Georgia Southwestern team. The Nighthawks don’t have an easy schedule left, but with a series win over Lander and the Hurricanes, they have a huge edge in the PBC.
- Point Loma. The Sea Lions were idle this weekend, but they are still good. Not much to report here.
- Seton Hill. As long as Ian Korn, Jon McCullough and Matthew Blanchard are doing insane things in the rotation, the Griffins are a top-20 team, no questions asked. They have a team ERA of 2.76, a team WHIP of 1.15 and well over a strikeout per inning pitched.
- West Chester. Can the PSAC be a more fun race than it is shaping up to be? The Golden Rams split with Shippensburg this past weekend. Had they won that series, they probably would have been No. 10. They are that good.
- Westmont. The Warriors have been a conundrum over the past month, but picked up three big wins this weekend. They are still the top team in the West.
- Young Harris. It could have been a bad week for the Mountain Lions, but after dropping their first two games, they won the last two by scoring 35 runs. This team can hit.
