Of course, the actual Gauff serve is still a work in progress, by the American’s own admission. The 2023 US Open winner recently added Matt Daly, a new coach with expertise on grip changes, to her team to address the troublesome shot.
In her last match at the Wuhan Open, Gauff served up 21 double faults in her semifinal match—a performance that prompted opponent Aryna Sabalenka to embrace her at the net in empathy.

“I mean, there is moments in the match where you are just like, I just want to leave the court,” the 20-year-old said afterward. “I think for me, I didn’t want myself to go into that mentality because it’s not going to change anything. I was just trying to be positive. Today it didn’t work.
“I know she (Aryna) had a similar double-faulting issue. It does give me confidence knowing that a lot of players go through this… I’m not worried because I found the solution, I just didn’t really have time to work on it.”
