American Sebastian Korda announced Friday that he recently underwent elbow surgery to correct lingering “issues,” with the 23-year-old writing on social media that the procedure was “the best option.”
“I wanted to update you all,” the world No. 19 wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself in a hospital bed. He added that he made the decision in consultation with his team, that “everything went great, and I can’t wait to be back on court soon.”
The American, who cracked the Top 15 with a torrid run of form this summer, hadn’t played since a second-round US Open loss to Tomas Machac. In the straight-sets defeat, Korda was visibly pained and received a medical timeout for his right arm.
Korda was flooded with well-wishes in the comments his post, from his fellow players including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Hubert Hurkacz, Alex Michelsen and Sloane Stephens, to his sister, LPGA star Jessica Korda, who commented that “[the] comeback is always stronger than the setback.”
