There are many obvious parallels between Kostyuk’s Wimbledon look—a sleeveless, deep-V-neck, largely open-backed dress—and something a bride might wear down the aisle. But Michaeloff told *Vogue* magazine in an interview that other design elements made their way into the SW19 version of the dress.
Chiefly? A button-up top layer, which for Kostyuk’s wedding dress was made of silk organza with hand-appliquéd flowers. At Wimbledon, the overdress is shorter, but designed with similar button fixtures. (Michaeloff says she added one more to allow Kostyuk to remove it easily under the time contraints of a pre-match warm-up.) The main dress, Michaeloff says, is functionally the same as the one Kostyuk wed in, but with a ball short included underneath.
“Basically, we added an underlayer component and then raised the neckline a little bit—we don’t want any mistakes in Wimbledon,” Michaeloff added.
