What an insane week of DII baseball. Top teams like Tampa, Lenoir-Rhyne and Westmont all lost big series, while schools like Millersville, West Chester and Minnesota State continue to surge upward. Angelo State just keeps winning, and the powerhouse is the new No. 1 in the latest DII baseball Power 10 rankings.

The Power 10 rankings strongly consider selection committee metrics and pair them with what is happening on the field. There is no voting group to tell me I may be wrong, just me, stats and a whole mess of notes from talking to coaches and watching baseball. Remember, the DII college baseball season is the longest of any sport. It ends after softball and spans five months, with most teams playing four to five games a week. Wins and losses take on a different look — expecting a team to sweep every weekend is simply irrational. So, who do you differentiate a field that is so tightly contested? That is what I try to explain below.
The DII baseball Power 10 rankings (Week ending March 30)
No. 1 Angelo State | Previous: 3. UT Tyler may have a better RPI and KPI, but the Rams are the Rams. Even if their strength of schedule is a bit lower than other teams, this is a tried-and-true program, looking for its fifth-straight trip to Cary and third-straight appearance in the championship game. When the Rams string together 10 in a row with most of the games being not particularly close, they are cooking. We’ll see if they can hold onto the top spot next week with a huge series against nationally ranked St. Edward’s (TX) this weekend.
No. 2 Tampa | Previous: No. 1. Yes, the Spartans lost their first series of the season, but it was also to a Power 10 team (more on them in a minute). The reason they are able to remain at No. 2 and stay above Florida Southern is both their RPI and KPI is still higher than the Mocs, as is their record against winning teams. It is really close, and that series could give Florida Southern the edge come selection time — especially with no SSC tournament — so the SSC has become one of the most important conference races to watch.
No. 3 Central Missouri | Previous: No. 7. Kyle Crookes became the winningest coach in Mules’ history this past weekend with a statement series win over nationally ranked Fort Hays State to go along with a midweek victory over Washburn. The Mules have been nothing but winners under Crookes, and that remains the same this year. Vance Tobol and Jacob Steele (who had three three-hit games this week) remain scorching hot while the starting pitching seems to be settling in. Another big series against Emporia State awaits this weekend.
No. 4 Florida Southern | Previous: No. 10 (tied). The Mocs make the largest jump of the week, moving up six spots with its series win over Tampa. The Mocs have been one of the most improved teams from last year, already six wins better than their 18-30 finish last season. Head coach Rick O’Dette returns to Saint Leo this weekend in an intriguing matchup. Mikey Scott remains hot and had a big weekend against Tampa going 6-for-13 with four runs scored and five RBIs.
No. 5 Lenoir Rhyne, Millersville| Previous: 2 and 8, respectively. The Bears benefit from some other Southeast Region schools — like Catawba and Mount Olive — having losing weekends and remain atop the Southeast in RPI, although Catawba still has a slightly high KPI. The Bears had been on fire and to be honest, Lincoln Memorial is a sneaky good team. The top four in the Bears lineup can hang with any in DII, and for now, they remain above the surging North Greenville team.
Millersville has won 14 out of its last 15 games, including a huge 3-1 series win over Shippensburg this past weekend. Once again, in the three victories, the pitching was fantastic as Connor Blantz hurled another doozy going 6.2 innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight with no walks. The balance of top-level pitching and smart hitting has the Marauders as the team to beat in the Atlantic right now.
No. 7 UT Tyler| Previous: No. 4. The Patriots have won eight of their last nine, and they are really winning. They have broken the 20-run mark twice in that span and have scored 12 or more runs five times. If the bracket were filled today, the Patriots could very possibly be the No. 1 seed in the South Central Region as they have split with Angelo State and currently own a better RPI and KPI. Justin Williams has been hitting everything with five multi-hit games in his last six outings.
No. 8 Minnesota State| Previous: No. 10 (tied). The wins simply keep rolling for the Mavericks, who are now 21-2 on the season. It was another dominating sweep this past weekend, this time over St. Cloud State. The Mavericks lead the NSIC in both batting average and ERA, so obviously have an incredible balance on their roster. No one exemplifies that more than two-way star Louis Magers who is leading the team with a 1.90 ERA with a .333 batting average and team-high eight home runs.
No. 9 North Greenville| Previous: No. First five out. Here’s the amazing part about how the Trailblazers have gotten to 29 wins already. They are still great at scoring runs — they have the second-most scored in DII baseball with 364 — but this year, they are manufacturing runs with timely hitting instead of relying on the boom sticks of years gone by. That said, keep an eye on Tristan Salinas who has four home runs in his last five games.
No. 10 (tied) Catawba, West Chester| Previous: No. 5 and 9, respectively. The Indians didn’t have a weekend series, but did lose a pair of midweek-ers to Southeast Region powers Belmont Abbey and North Georgia — both of which would likely be in the tournament if the bracket was filled today. That is why Catawba slips a little bit; it’s not just the losses, but who they were against.
The Golden Rams have won seven in a row and simply drop a spot because some other teams behind them had bigger weeks. Don’t be fooled, though, West Chester is one of the best in DII baseball and its pitching staff is tough, led by Kyle Lazer who still doesn’t have an ERA or WHIP north of 1.00.
First five (ish) out (in alphabetical order)
The next five are just too close, so there are a few extra teams this week.
- Davenport. Last week, I had the Panthers’ Midwest Region adversary Grand Valley State in this spot, and Davenport took three of four from the Lakers. There’s a reason why Davenport was my sleeper back in December.
- Delta State. The Statesmen are the perfect example of 2025. They are playing very well, but bunched up right outside the top 10. Don’t sleep on them — especially that weekend rotation.
- East Stroudsburg. It was another clean sweep for the Warriors, behind two more shutouts for one of the best pitching staffs in DII baseball right now.
- North Georgia. The Nighthawks are soaring and look like the team to beat in the PBC right now. Andrews Opata is still showing why he is such a gifted athlete.
- Seton Hill. The Griffins had a tough weekend with a split, but this pitching staff is just too good to not believe in.
- Westmont. The Warriors lost five in a row but salvaged a victory to close the weekend against Jessup.
- Young Harris. The Mountain Lions’ resumé is among the most impressive in DII, and that sweep of Mount Olive one weekend after taking a series against North Greenville is all you need to know.
